bikepacking in the canadian rockies

In 2019, I took on a project to ride ten multi-day bikepacking routes throughout the Canadian Rockies. The idea behind this endeavour was to honour my late husband, Ryan, who had scouted these routes and crafted them into a guidebook shortly before his death. The guidebook was eventually published posthumously by Rocky Mountain Books. You can find it here.

My experience riding these routes was more valuable than I ever could have imagined. I found purpose and direction with this project at a chaotic and confusing time in my life. I nourished my body with movement, enriched friendships with shared adventures, found a place for both grief AND joy in my life, and honoured Ryan — a comforting and healing deed for a grieving soul.

In addition to a blog series (click on photos above), this journey was captured in a short film by Jeff Bartlett and Stirl and Rae Media Haus with the generous support of Salsa Cycles.
